El Parlamento Europeo decidió que los eurodiputados dispongan del nuevo dispositivo de Apple y los políticos podrán disfrutarlo una vez que llegue a Europa -el próximo 28 de mayo-. Eso sí, previo pago por la Cámara legislativa de 5 millones de dólares.
Según el diario El Mundo, esta operación se enmarca en un proyecto de movilidad de la oficina administrativa del organismo europeo, que prevé ofrecer un iPad para cada uno de los 736 diputados, debido a la necesidad de "estar mucho más conectados", según recoge el diario "Times".
El precio individual de cada iPad podría superar los 590 euros. Lo cual, si se realiza el cálculo, arroja un valor total de medio millón de euros, y no de 4,3 millones de libras (unos cinco millones de euros) como asegura el ’Times’.Un portavoz de esta oficina confirmó al periódico británico la operación, que fue impulsada por la europarlamentaria alemana Klaus Welle, conocida por ser una entusiasta del iPhone, otro de los productos ’estrella’ de Apple.Este mismo portavoz aseguró que la adquisición servirá para "deshacerse" de los PCs del Parlamento, con Microsoft Word 2003 como parte del software instalado en la mayoría de ellos, que, a su entender, se "quedaron anticuados".
"La mayoría de los eurodiputados ya tienen iPhone y están muy contentos con él. El PC era bueno hace tiempo, pero el iPad es ya mucho mejor", explica.Asimismo, los eurodiputados también disponen de un portátil -comprado recientemente a HP-, aunque algunos de ellos se quejaron a la oficina de administración afirmando que es un "mamotreto" en comparación con el iPad.No obstante, no todos los políticos están de acuerdo con esta operación. Así, la británica Marta Andreasen calificó de "compra innecesaria" este gasto, especialmente en época de "crisis y dificultades" para los ciudadanos.Andreasen recordó los problemas que ocasionará esta compra a varios eurodiputados, "sobre todo a los más mayores", ya que apuntó que "muchos de ellos no saben ni siquiera usar Internet correctamente".
